Casa Atabex Aché - House of Womyn's Power

Casa Atabex Aché has a rich legacy of supporting womyn of color to reconnect with their individual and collective powers of healing and action so they may transform their lives, families and communities. Utilizing a holistic model, Casa's mission is to support the emotional, spiritual, physical and intellectual development of womyn and their health needs related to their experiences of abuse and neglect. Casa has two core constituencies: young and adult womyn of color living in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx as well as young and adult womyn of color organizers on the frontline (e.g. activists, social workers, teachers, etc.).

Don’t Expel Bullied Gay Teen!  Darnell “Dynasty” Young has been bullied for months — it has sometimes gotten so bad that he has thought about suicide.  His mother contacted the school but instead of taking appropriate action, asked Darnell to “tone down” his accessories. That is victim blaming.  Not knowing what to do, his mother sent him to school with a stun gun because he didn’t feel safe. On April 16, 6 students surrounded him threatening violence. He pulled out the stun gun and raised it in the air, setting off an electric charge. He did not use it on anyone — he simply scared them away, protecting himself.  Young was soon arrested and taken away in handcuffs. He is now facing expulsion from the school. Please tell Arsenal Technical High School to not expel Young — who hurt no one and was just trying to protect himself — and to change their school’s bullying policy to offer more protection for LGBT youth. No one should feel unsafe at school! — Brittany

Crash Relative: “I Lost My Whole Family” (by AssociatedPress)

ONLINE FAMILY, please spread the word! RE-POST!

A family LOST SEVEN MEMBERS two days ago in a car accident on the Bronx River Parkway. Three young children (including a 3-year-old), two middle-aged mothers and two elderly grandparents died when the family’s S.U.V. veered off the highway and plummeted 60 feet. A donation page was created to aid this family in their time of incalculable grief. PLEASE support in any way possible! 

The grandparents were visiting from their home in the Dominican Republic. If their family sees fit, they should be allowed to bury their loved ones in their homeland and to do so would require the financial means that our community is capable of providing!
