Casa Atabex Aché - House of Womyn's Power

Casa Atabex Aché has a rich legacy of supporting womyn of color to reconnect with their individual and collective powers of healing and action so they may transform their lives, families and communities. Utilizing a holistic model, Casa's mission is to support the emotional, spiritual, physical and intellectual development of womyn and their health needs related to their experiences of abuse and neglect. Casa has two core constituencies: young and adult womyn of color living in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx as well as young and adult womyn of color organizers on the frontline (e.g. activists, social workers, teachers, etc.).

josé julio sarria, gay latino who ran for public office in 1961 - many, many years before harvey milk

he ran for the san francisco board of supervisors and almost won by default, until people noticed there was a gay man running and immediately submitted everyone possible for the position. he didn’t win, but he still got 6000 votes, which shocked conservatives
he was also a drag queen popular at many of the balls at the time… and he still does it today (lookin good for a guy in his late 80s)!

I Love My Boo campaign features real young men of color loving each other passionately. Rather than sexualizing gay relationships, this campaign models caring and highlights the importance of us taking care of each other. Featured throughout New York City, I Love My Boo directly challenges homophobia and encourages all who come across it to critically rethink our notion of love.
